hey,
i know you've had several posts about speex and GSM already, but i was wondering if you could tell me how to do the following: (excerpts from guild forum) "could you perhaps try using the windows virtual operating system inside ur mac and install it there?" "It's basically a program you run on your computer that simulates a Windows environment, thus allowing you run Windows programs (like Vent with a "good" codec). All Mac users had to do this to use Vent prior to the release of the Mac client." it sounds to me like there's a way to get vent to work without having to convert the server's codex to GSM and having everyone in the guild update to the beta version. thanks in advance, anna |

the best thing is for the server to change the default codec to speex
the new 3.0 client has the speex update that was in the 2.3 beta client. using something like Fusion or Parallels does not work well with PTT as the window needs activation. have they even tried the Speex codec on the highest quality setting? Users will most likely not even notice a change. |

You certainly can purchase VMWare Fusion and listen using the Windows vent using this method, assuming you have an Intel-based Mac. If you don't, you're out of luck.
But as mjgraf said, your guild is just being hard-headed. There's zero reason to not switch to Speex now. |

But as you can see, a lot of guilds will not switch the servers... moot point imo
