Need A little help connecting to a windows server...

I'm a new mac user, and I'm trying to connect to a server on ventrillo. My friends tell me that it's a windows server, and so I can connect, but I can't talk so hear anyone, and the only way I can hear or talk is if it was made with "teamspeex" originally. I'm a little confused. Is there any other way to talk or listen on a windows server without it being recreated? Can someone give me some brief tips or possiblly direct me to a more informative site?
