Xbox 360 controller PTT hotkey

I'm having trouble setting a button on my controller as my push to talk hotkey. I've done it before, but not since upgrading to Windows 10. Is this a Windows 10 issue?

does the controller require its own driver? if yes, then make sure it's up to date.

then try this:

try setting both Vent and any online game to ‘Run As Administrator’ (rt-click their icon / properties / compatibility tab / privilege level) or (rt-click their icon and select 'Run as Administrator')

My XBOX ONE controller, connected via USB, works fine. Win10 auto detected it and setup the drivers which are part of the OS at install.

Drivers for Xbox controllers are included in Windows update now, and are up to date. Tried with Ventrilo running as administrator and that did not work.

here's a couple troubleshooting steps you might want to try:

1. unplug all usb devices except kybd/mouse/controller then try to set the ptt key.

2. in vent setup, uncheck 'use direct input to detect hotkey' and check 'discard hotkey', then re-check 'use direct input'

3. check for BIOS, chipset and usb drivers for win10, you should only check the pc (or specific motherboard) manufacturers website for your make/model. The manufacturer is responsible for maintaining the proper version of driver for their specific hardware.

I should clarify that the controller works in games perfectly, I just can't use it to set a hotkey. Will try latest suggestions when I get home from work.
