Ok, so i download the file, and its a text file???? Can someone help a poor mac noob plz

So you click the download button on the download page and you download a text file?

Safari's been known to do this sometimes. First, try option-clicking it, to force it to download instead of opening in a browser window. if that doesn't work, rename the file manually to a .zip, and it should expand normally if you doubleclick on it.
