Microphone Input Low

My microphone input volume is really really low in Vent. Note that my microphone works perfectly fine in TeamSpeak and it also works perfectly fine in Yahoo Messenger voice call. Everyone can hear me loud and clear even when I talk relatively low and my mic is in its normal position strapped on my shirt's neck.

However, no matter how I set things up in vent, it has such a low input that I basically have to put the mic on my mouth for it to record. I tried switching the input devices, tried matching the mixer device with the input device, tried boosting the input, I used monitor and test, tried all codecs... same problem. I don't get it!

what version of windows are you running?

what level of numbers do you see when running the monitor test?

is the headset usb or does it plug into the onboard sound.
