I'm hoping someone can help me as I'm completely out of ideas as to what to do here...
I have been using a vent located on iron.typefrag.com for several months now. Two days ago, it suddenly stopped connecting for me. When I select that server in the client, I see a perpetual "contacting server" message and can never log on. Others can access our server just fine, it seems to only be affecting me. Also, I can access other servers just fine, only iron is now unavailable to me. I've restarted router, modem and PC with no luck. I've done tracert and received the following numerous times: Tracing route to iron.typefrag.com [216.52.206.104] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 ms 1 ms 2 ms LINKSYSWRT350N [192.168.1.1] 2 25 ms 29 ms 29 ms 71.225.248.1 3 11 ms 13 ms 14 ms xe-10-2-0-0-sur01.ivyland.pa.panjde.comcast.net [68.85.79.13] 4 12 ms 10 ms 15 ms xe-3-0-0-0-ar03.ivyland.pa.panjde.comcast.net [6 9.139.192.1] 5 17 ms 16 ms 14 ms pos-0-6-0-0-cr01.newyork.ny.ibone.comcast.net [6 8.86.95.169] 6 85 ms 219 ms 175 ms 64.209.106.33 7 36 ms 35 ms 32 ms Internap-Atlanta.TenGigabitEthernet3-4.ar5.ATL1. gblx.net [207.218.80.218] 8 32 ms 33 ms 34 ms border10.tge3-1-bbnet1.acs.pnap.net [64.94.0.12] 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 * * * Request timed out. 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 * * * Request timed out. 15 * * * Request timed out. 16 * * * Request timed out. 17 * * * Request timed out. 18 * * * Request timed out. 19 * * * Request timed out. 20 * * * Request timed out. 21 * * * Request timed out. 22 * * * Request timed out. 23 * * * Request timed out. 24 * * * Request timed out. 25 * * * Request timed out. 26 * * * Request timed out. 27 * * * Request timed out. 28 * * * Request timed out. 29 * * * Request timed out. 30 * * * Request timed out. does this work?
Booting Into Safe-Mode http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode Restart Windows Keep hitting the F8 function key before the Windows logo appears. You should see a list of options to choose from. Select “Safe Mode with Networking”. This will boot windows into a very basic configuration but also allow network drivers to load. Start Ventrilo to see if it connects all the way. If it works properly then there is something that is loading during the normal boot that is interferring with the connection. |

Thank you for that suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't work - still unable to contact that particular server. I was able to connect to three other servers while safe mode, as I was before.
I should add that I am on Win 7x64 and running latest 64 bit client. I am perplexed... ![]() |

can you telnet to the server?
start > run cmd {hit enter} telnet serverhostname port# (where serverhostname={the server ipaddress or hostname of the server you’re trying to connect to (found in vent client server setup)} and port#={port associated with that server} (example: “telnet 75.125.43.51 3784” or “telnet www.myserver.com 3784” without the quotes) If Telnet is able to connect then the screen will go blank. If not, then you will see an error message about not being able to connect. Enabling Telnet in Vista/Windows 7 Control-Panel / Programs and Features / Turn Windows features on or off / select “Telnet Client” / click OK |

ok, that looks like a problem with the UDP connection on that port
try connecting to: iron.typefrag.com port=3784 this is one of their test servers |

I am not able to connect on the test port either. I also tried creating a new user ID and connecting but no dice.
Also, we had our server owner restart it last night and did not help. I tried calcium.typefrag.com port 3784 just to be sure and I can connect there without issue. Thanks again for the continued help. |

last resort, try power cycling your comcast and linksys routers.
almost seems like a route issue, but the telnet connection is the oddball to me. |

I tried power cycling everything, even hard-reset the router, but no luck.
This is going in my book of most confounding unsolvable problems I've ever encountered. It just doesn't make sense... I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I can't believe it has come to this but, we may have no other choice but to switch our subscription to another server. Does anyone know if there is any last direct/non-forum-based support available we could try before going that route? |

i would contact typefrag at this point and see if they can monitor your incoming connection and possibly backtrace it to see where it's failing. they have a very good customer service group.
the calcium and iron servers might be located in different data centers |
