cant use usb device on vent

so when i open the setup on the vent screen and try to switch the input and output to my usb device, it doesnt show up. i tried going thru the steps in the faq on the mac page here, but it still doesnt work. any ideas?

2008 macbook pro
logitech usb headset

Can you select 'Logitech' in the System Preferences -> Sound panel?

Look at both the Input and Output tabs and see if the Logitech appears there as an option.
