Default Can't push to talk without focus?

I'm running Mac version 10.5.8, vent works completely fine for me. No voice or server problems for me. The one thing that is going wrong, is my push to talk key. I have it set up to the grave key (next to the 1 on my laptop) and there are no keybinds to it when I'm playing WoW. However, when my focus is on another program like safari or WoW, when I press grave nothing happens. I have to click on the vent window so it's in my focus and then press grave to talk. This also prevents me from talking while I'm in fullscreen mode.

I read the faq and there was one related question, but it was for windows 98 or something. It told me: "In Setup-Voice you need to enable the "Use DirectInput to detect Hotkey" option." I checked the voice section of the setup on my vent, but (probably due to the faq question being for PC) there seems to be no such option. Is there a way to enable this on my computer?
