problem with vent and playing anygames

when i am playing any game with vent running, when ppl log on to vent log off vent, people join the channel or leave the channel i go into super lag spikes and cant do anything for least 5-10 sec.

this could be several things.
does it happen when ventrilo is the only application running.

yes, if vent is the only app running it still happens

if you have mute sound checked and people log off and on, does the lag still happen?
