no mic detected at all

ok 1st time user.. it seems great cept my mic isnt detected

ive been through all the faq's and help and tried everything

under setup i try monitor and i get 'na' and test does nothing, any suggestions?

set the mixer/mux/line
if that does not work, check to make sure the mic is plugged into the correct jack and/or any multifunction jacks are configured properly via the sound card driver software

mic works fine in other programs like msn and skype... any other ideas?
