Testing the Microphone with Windows
(the microphone must work here before it will work with any voice-comm program)

Windows XP
Control-Panel / Sounds and Audio / Voice Tab / Test Hardware Button

Windows Vista/Windows 7
Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder / create a recording then save it
Windows Media Player (WMP) / playback recording

if it works there then test it in vent setup:

click the monitor button and speak, you should see numbers greater than 0

then try the 'test' button, hold down your ptt key, talk, then release and you should hear the playback of what you said.

Which Operating System are you currently running? Were you able to speak on ventrilo in the past without any issues?

In Ventrilo Setup:

Make sure that you are using "Default DirectSound Device" for the Input Device, with User Direct Sound checked/enabled.

You can locate your Microphone/Input volume level and properties by clicking the Recording (Input) button located at the bottom right-hand side of the setup menu. If you're on Windows 7, you can simply right-click your Microphone and view the Properties. Make sure that the Volume level is turned up to a reasonable level (70-100), and that it is in fact enabled and not disabled/muted.

In the Hardware Input Mixer (Optional) area of the Setup Menu, try setting the Mixer to (None) and the Mux/Line options will be set to null/blank. Click Okay and try it out - let us know if you have any more issues.

Default Same problem

I started gaimg again and my mic is not working. I have been using the help section with no luck as well as the forums here. I havent been able to use my mic since playing again. I can see the mic turn green from the PTT but no one can here me.

I tried the steps here with no luck. I am using vista and can not find anything where there is a mic volume or or mute. Under recording input in setup it is recognizing the mic. Thanks for any help you can give.

Default Same problem with Win7 64

Hope it's ok to post this here. I'm having the same problem on my grandson's comp which is a win7 64 bit machine. I've got Vent installed on three other comps and it works fine but mic does not work on the Win7-64 machine. The mic works in Vent "Test" mode but not when trying to talk to others in a Server. Volume is set at 80, I can record using Win Sound Recorder. It's not the headset/mic because I tried the one on another machine and got the same results.

The comp is a Compaq Dual Core, Win7-64, Onboard Realtek Sound and BFG GeForce 8500GT-1GB PCI-E. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Mac
