When i get in my friends vent, I start to talk and then he says I sound like a robot and sometimes I have static. I am currently on a mac computer and I have the latest ventrilo software. Please inform me on what to do in order to fix this issue. I have been using a USB Headset.

My amps are set to 0 and when I do a PMU reset it still does the same thing. I even deleted my hard drive and started from scratch with 10.6. It does the same thing, I sound like a robot with my USB Headset. Can someone please help me fix this issue?

Unfortunately, there is no current fix for this issue. In general, disconnecting from the vent server, then reconnecting about every 20 minutes seems to help. It's not a fix but at least you can continue to use Vent.
Please see the following threads here on the Vent forums. http://www.ventrilo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39590 http://www.ventrilo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37302 And most importantly, add your comments onto the Apple Discussion forum as that is linked to a bug report on file with Apple. That's a really good question; there are two possibilities
1) OS Issue 2) Ventrilo Issue This issue affects applications other than Vent; Skype, Logic and several others (see Apple Discussion forums) so that points at it being operating system related. Also, since Vent was working fine pre-10.5.6, that's another indication it's OS related. However, several things have changed in the OS concerning USB and drivers; and since Vent hasn't been updated since the dawn of time, oh uh, since last year, it's not utilizing the newer programming routines that have been updated in the OS since 10.5.6. So, until we get an update to Vent utilizing the class methods that have changed since 10.5.6., and possibly an OS update (coming soon I suspect) we won't know. |

I suspect Vent uses higher-level functions, which likely have not changed, even though the plumbing underneath may have. Everything about this one points to an OS issue, meaning Apple will have to deliver a fix. |

The PTT or voice activate won't really make a difference.
In my experience the issue occurs 20-25 minutes after using Vent. 'Using' means connecting, dropping into a channel saying a few words here and there. After a period, the voice becomes almost robotic and hard to understand. At this point, I have duplicated the issue on over 100 different Macs, using a variety of USB headsets, and OS's from 10.5.6 to 10.6.1. All completely clean installs. Just as an example, I pulled a brand new iMac 20", 2.66, 2G, 320G Apple Part # MB417 out of the box this morning. Plugged it in, started up, entered the normal email information. It had 10.6 preinstalled. Then started up Safari, downloaded Vent and installed it. Grabbed a Logitech USB headset, plugged it in started up Vent, configured. Hopped into a channel with some folks, said hi and explained that I was testing a headset. Waited 10 minutes, said Hi again. waited about 10 minutes and let them know I was still there. I got three words out and they said 'hey, you went all robo on us'. I know a few Java (Mac) developers who were having similar issues with AudioInputStream. The issue is readily duplicated with USB Mics, but does not appear to occur with built in mics on iMacs and MacBooks. Last edited by Jaycyn; 10-15-2009 at 02:17 PM. |
