Hi,
I have not been able to use the Ventrilo overlay since upgrading to Windows 8. It worked fine in Windows 7 by removing the Aero glass theme automatically and then returning it when I closed Ventrilo. In Windows 8, when it trys to do that it fails stating that my video card does not support hardware video overlay. (ATI HD 6000) Tried it with ATI drivers 12.10 and 12.11 beta. What is the trick to using the overlay in Windows 8? Thanks Last edited by Prog-Rocker; 08-11-2016 at 05:15 PM. |

Just wondering if this issue was ever resolved. I just recently bought a new gaming system that came with Win8 and the overlay does not work. Can we fix please? I kinda rely on it.
thanks |

I am also having the same problem. Running windows 8 with a Geoforce 660M, and it tells me my video card does not support overlays. Is windows 8 not supported by Ventrilo?

mine does fail as well on a radeon hd5750 using win8 pro 64
from what i've read in other forums it looks like msoft made a change in win8 in how it works with overlays of any type. there's a couple suggestions that i will try on my machine as i'm not worried about damaging anything |

i might have found a temporary solution. I tested the following registry entry on win8 pro-64 with an AMD Radeon HD 5750 (v12.10 CCC) and have the overlay working (so far). I found this in the msdn forum.
I would need someone with an nvidia card to also test note: haven't tested with any games yet this will require manually editing the registry to add a new key with Dword entry. goto Run > regedit navigate down to the following key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ then add the following keys under Microsoft (rt-clik in the right-hand pane > new > key) Direct3D > Shims > EnableOverlays so that the whole path looks as follows: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Direct3D\Shim s\EnableOverlays] (Shim s should be Shims) then rt-clik in the right-hand pane > new > dword 32bit value change the value name to : c:\program files\ventrilo\ventrilo.exe (or your specific install location) rt-clik on that name > modify > change 'value data' = 1 fyi - here is where i found this info: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsdirectshowdevelopment/thread/d3c684b0-37ac-4a52-ba08-464b8dae4433 Last edited by Flagship; 08-04-2016 at 06:55 PM. |

update:
the regedit entry seems to be working on both AMD and nVidia cards. but, there might be a minor issue of having to run games in 'windowed-full screen' mode. this was seen with the nvidia/WoW combo. we will continue testing to find solutions. feel free to post any configurations that are working for your setup. |
