Default Client can't find server, status.php can

I have turned off the firewall and forwarded 3784 to my server, but I can't connect to it through the client (MSG: Contacting server).

However, when I check out http://ventrilo.com/status.php and put my server information in (exactly as I'm trying to connect through the client), it shows up and is available.

My install process was simply downloading the server (linux 3.0.3), unpacking it, fixing the ventrilo_srv.ini file to have the name/admin password I wanted, and then running ventrilo_srv.

when setting up the portforward and firewalls, did you allow these ports:

3784 TCP
3784 UDP
6100 UDP

----------------------

Testing Local Connection

For PC’s connecting on the same LAN as the server:
If you’re connecting the client from a different PC than the server then configure the client to use one of the internal ipaddresses of the server for the servername. The LAN ipaddress is typically set to 192.168.x.x

If you’re running the client on the same PC as the server then configure the client to use 127.0.0.1 or “localhost” as the Hostname (ipaddress).

Most home routers will not redirect a connection if you specify your external ipaddress or DNS hostname in the Ventrilo Client > Server setup. In most cases this configuration has caused unexpected problems.

Woohooo! It was port 6100 that I hadn't forwarded/allowed through my firewall.

Thanks a bunch prog!

Ventrilo team, I think it would be useful to have this information included in the setup documentation, maybe add the necessary ports to http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php#Server_Network_Requirements since all I could find was that 3784 was the default port, and there was no mention that 6100 was necessary (which appears to be the contact port?).
