Do you have "Enable acces for assistive devices" checked in the preference panel under "universal acces"?

OK I figured it out. First, go to universal access and uncheck enable access for assistive devices. Then quit vent. Next, go back to universal access and recheck the box. Finally, start up vent. It worked for me. I hope it works for you too.
