Default Ventrilo Lag/Delay Issue

Hi everyone!

So me and my roommate are having problems with Ventrilo.
This happened recently, before this happened Vent was working fine.

When I connect to a server, first off it takes a long time to connect which is unusual, and when I get in I might be okay to talk for about 5 seconds then my ping spikes and I become unable to have others hear me.

My ping display's as high as 4300's, yet strangely I can hear everyone else talking perfectly fine, with no delay. Sometimes, when I am able to get a message out it comes about 15 seconds after I say it.

This is happening to both of our computers, which are powerful (I can post specs if needed).

Im running a Soundblaster Live! 24-bit sound card.
We run on a Shaw Cable connection through a router without any external firewalls (Once again, it has worked before through the same router/modem)

Thanks for any help in advance

See if you have the same problem in another ventrilo server. If not, its the server you were connected to. If you still have this problem its your internet connection or something else - I'd try reinstalling ventrilo and your soundcard driver.

I am getting the exact same problem. I have been using vent for over 3 years and now all of a sudden when i connect to servers it becomes very choppy and laggy. I dont even think its a latency problem. ANd i also have a very fast computer. I tried reinstalling 3 times and im still having the same issue.

hey guys, i am getting the same problem for about a week now... when i first connect to the vent server its all fine but then shortly after ppl start complaining that i am lagged out. my vent ping spikes up to anywhere between 13000-25000. But i can still hear everyone else speak fine, and in real time (no lag) so it is just the transmit that is lagged.

i can speak using in game voice with no problems, so assume it is not my computer or internet connection. ventrilo is the only application with this issue.

ALL -

who's your ISP?
what's your upload bandwidth?
in vent setup/misc, try setting 'process priority=high'
try re-installing and/or updating the sound device driver

when the problem starts:
perform a traceroute to the server and post the results:

start > run > cmd

tracert serverhostname(found in server setup)

Routers with Speedboost

I've been having the EXACT problem. Longer load times to connect to vent, using shaw cable, spikes to 4k, started happening a week ago. It's Shaws fault, email spam them then DOS their employees till they fix it!
