So it's been about three days since this started and I can't decipher the culprit. Whenever I log into Ventrilo with my headset on the log on noise is fine, and the log off noise is fine, but other people's voices and other misc. sounds are really low. All other programs are completely fine (including Skype and Mumble) and when my headset is unplugged everything is fine. The obvious answer would be that something is wrong with the headset but why then would it be Ventrilo only?

hmm, this is different. let's check on some of the settings:
in vent setup/voice-binds-speech tabs, make sure the output device settings are the same in all 3 tabs. enable 'use directsound' then set the name in the dropdown box to that of the headset. in windows ctrl-panel/sounds/comm tab, set to 'do nothing' in the playback tab, which device is the default (green checkmark) and which is the comm device (green telephone handset) |
