Ventrilo doesn't work when in another application
 

So, onmy macbook pro i got ventrilo working fine, but when i am in another application like a word document or the safari, ventrilo won't work. In other words i can only send out going messages when ventrilo is my current application, i can however hear incoming messages fine.
Is there anyway to remedy this situation?
