Trying to make vent server...Error

Error: Unable to read configuration data. Exiting.

I checked the ventrilo_srv.log data but it just said the same thing. Any ideas?

You have to start the server from the command line and from within its enclosing directory. You can't double-click it in the Finder.

Hi,
I am also having the same problem as the original poster. Could you please explain how to "start the server from the command line and from within its enclosing directory"? As i do not know how and any google searches i try on how to do this have yielded no results.

Also could anyone inform me on how to find your port number? or is there a default port number similar to windows?

To my knowledge their is no concise tutorial to setting up a locally hosted vent server on Mac, if someone could create one i think it would make things a whole lot easier.

Instructions are here, in the Unix Platform area (which the the operating system under the hood of every modern day Mac), and you should really be comfortable in unix before trying to set it up.

You need to have your router port forward port 3784 to your Mac's IP adress - keep in mind that unless your cable connection is a static IP address, it may change at a moments notice and your users will not be able to connect.

Make sure the ventrilo.ini file has Port 3784 (which is the default) and intf=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (the IP address of your Macintosh)

Once it is set up and the settings are correct, to start vent, type

./ventrilo_srv
