Broadcasting audio causes system shutdown

So Vent was working for some time, and since then the only thing I've installed were a couple items. First an antivirus, and second DivX. I have since uninstalled both, and however am left with the same issue.

When I hit the push to talk button, or even just listen in for a while, it locks my entire computer up. I have to power cycle to just get the system back.

I have the latest drivers/chipset/bios installed, and have seen other issues similar here.

I as well, have selected the Directsound element, and selected my source, so that's all good as is the advice in other threads.

I run as "Admin" so that's not it either.

Honestly I'm at a loss here. There's no logs in the windows system to tell me what's going on, because the lockup is so complete. Vent logs seem equally uninformative.

what version of window are you running?

did you set vent to 'run as admin' (rt-clik the vent icon) ?

check for this:

Cyberlink Powercinema

Vent lockup or lag

before connecting to a server, goto vent setup and run the 'test' function. does it lock the system?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes. Vent is set to run as admin.

No I don't have Cyberlink installed.

Yes, when I hit the test thing, it locks up. The "Begin" starts in the test column and then, the mouse starts to move slower and slower (as if the resources of the computer are being consumed) and over about a 2 second timeframe goes from smoothly moving to the entire system is locked up and I need to powerdown.

Windows Version 7.0 Home Premium
Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600

open taskmanager/processes tab (select 'all users' box a bottom) clik on the CPU column to sort by cpu usage

then run the vent-test again.

what application is using the cpu?

Facade2010 06-16-2010 03:40 PM

Well, outside my main game running at the time...(Aion)..

WerFaultSecure.exe pops up to about 2% of the CPU and gacks.
Svchost.exe is next at 1%

Below that is audiodg.exe at 0 ...

And even without the Aion client running, System Idol process is 98%, and then boom, I hit test and push to talk button, and blamo...WerFaultSecure hits 2%.

what brand audio device are you using?

try unchecking 'play key cliks' in vent setup

what usb devices are hooked up?

in the windows microphone properties, try disabling all effects like noise suppression, accoustic cancellation, etc
