Can't transmit

I cannot transmit voice. I am able to connect fine and hear people fine from the headset.

I am using an .Audio 500 USB headset on a MAC.

The headset works fine from MAC system preferences.

The mic is not muted in Ventrilo. I am not using the Push-to-Talk option.

Any ideas as to what am I doing wrong?

Same problem here

I'm having the same problem. I can connect, and I can hear my guildies, but I can't make myself heard. I'm using a Sennheiser PC135 USB headset, and I have tested the mic itself and it works fine. I don't even see a Push-to-Talk option/button, though. Where is that located?

Edit: Aha. I checked the checkbox for Push-to-Talk, then I moved the focus to the Hotkey field and hit the key I wanted for my Push-to-Talk hotkey. Bingo. Now it works.

shamozzle 10-07-2006 05:45 PM

this is definitely a problem with the new client
do you have ridiculous lags too? i get pings of 20,000++++

wadesworld 10-07-2006 06:14 PM

The new version is not suddenly lagging. It's FAR more likely that your ISP is having transient problems.

shamozzle 10-07-2006 06:45 PM

i dunno man?
there's other people on the board complaining of the same stuff.
and it just happens to coincide exactly with upgrading.
it happening on both my t1 and cable having the same problems at the same time
and no router... asdlk;jkasdl

Haven't seen any. The user in this thread for example was having problems transmitting, but hadn't correctly configured push-to-talk.

Then perhaps the problem is closer to the destination rather than the source.

Sorry to disagree, but I just haven't seen any evidence to support some random lag-inducing bug being introduced in the last version.

shamozzle 10-07-2006 07:44 PM

do you have alink to the older prototypes so i can try it?
i was using 9 or 12 i believe... cant find any way to DL either....

ive changed no software, no hardware, no prefs.. literally all i did was install the new version (p15) and now people put me on mute because the breakup is so bad

mjgraf 10-07-2006 09:37 PM

most likely a problem between you and the server and not ventrilo.

SteveJobs 10-11-2006 07:51 PM

I'm having an issue where push to talk was once working, then suddenly stops working for no reason, I can restart vent, and still have the problem. This happened occasionaly in r14, but it's happend twice in two days with r15

SteveJobs 10-11-2006 08:28 PM

I had to entirely reboot my machine to get it to work, I had even tried just relaunching the finder to no avail.

Ybeel 10-13-2006 08:36 PM

Since I installed the new client (Prototype 15), I have been having the same problem. I can hear everyone else just fine, but they can't hear me. I am running Mac OS X 10.4.8. Everything used to work great with the previous client. Please, people at ventrilo, make Prototype 14 available for those of us who are having this problem!

mjgraf 10-13-2006 09:04 PM

please recheck you configuration and ensure that mute mic is not checked and that enable outgoing comm is checked.

wadesworld 10-13-2006 09:28 PM

Additionally, ensure that your mic input gain is turned up in both Ventrio and the Sound Preference Pane.

Everything is in order it simply seems that when I use the Push to talk key, it doesn't make the push to talk "sound" and no one can hear me, the light doesn't come on saying that I'm speaking.

All the mutes are unchecked, everything looks fine but I'm not transmitting (even the light on my iSight is on) when I reboot my machine it works fine again.

I am having the same exact problem...someone please help!!

lecagot 10-22-2006 07:35 PM

Same here, friend. I use Vent with World of Warcraft and I can hear others perfectly, but am unable to transmit. I've played with both MAC Voice settings and Ventrilo setting to no avail. Anyone have any solutions or have a template for the proper settings. Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you configure push to talk
???????????

jorrad 10-24-2006 11:05 PM

I'm using this program for WoW myself and had the same problem. I'm running with a USB headset. I could hear but could'nt get them to hear me. As it turns out you have to set the Line input slider all the way to max to get my mic to even start picking up my voice 1" from my mouth. Somthings not right there to say the least.
But as to how you configure push to talk, I don't know. I can't get it to work on my set up ether. I'm only lucky I figured it out with my head set mic.
for some news you might want to check out my post about the help button. Good luck

That is definitely not correct. Is the input gain slider in the system Sound Preference pane set correctly? Does it show correct responsiveness to sound input there?

Is the input device set correct in Ventrilo?

It's not hard guys - you click on the "Use Push to talk hotkey" in setup, then click in the Hotkey box and press a key.

To ensure it works when in the background, see issue #4 here:

Yes the input on my computer input pane is right on. The meater showes my computer hearing my mic just fine. Peaks at 3/4 to the top with a normal speaking voice. all's good there.
Now as to the Ventrilo setings I'm not sure.
(( This is were a simple written out base line setting page would be very usrful on the Ventrilo site or in the Mac forum))
Ie...... 1) What is the Silence time setting and what does it do?
2) What does the Sensitivity setting effect and what should it be
set to as a base line.
3) Both the Sound Output and Sound Input panes let me chose
my Logitech usb Headset but in the Input pane I need to slide
the input bar all the way to max just to get my mic to pick up
vioce, As I stated before.
The list goes on but I think you get the point. I know all systems are a littel different but there must be a staring point to your program. If we know what things do we can fine-tune them ourselves.
Please do yourselves and us a favor and get somthing written out for us to read. Allso get the Help button up and runnig ASAP. It will save you alot of work answering these questions. But I'm sure you know that allredy.
Seriously speeking, Thanks for putting this together for the Mac. I know it's alot of work.

wadesworld 10-25-2006 02:30 PM

What kind of logitech USB headset? I have one that works fine.

Sensitivity affects transmission when voice-activated mode is used. However, you should use push to talk.
