Default hello, any plans to use GSM anytime soon

ok so obviously my SWG guild will not change the codec to speex just for me so i was wondering if eventually (hopefully soon) you guys will come out with a client that supports the GSM codec. if you have any plans could you please let me know.

Why wouldn't your Guild change the codec just for you? The Speex codec works just fine.

And I'm sure they plan on implementing all Windows client features in the Mac client. Have patience! This is a pre-release version that shows that they are taking Mac users seriously.

For some of us our guilds us a rented server, and the access to change it is limited.

As I posted on another thread I would love an offical response to whether or not GSM will be included in future releases. If it is in the plans then I will just patiently wait; if it is not it will force me to explore other options.

If you're renting from a company that won't let you administer your server, then you need to change hosting companies - that's unacceptable.

It took our admin about 20 seconds to make the change. When he completed the changes, the users who were logged in were disconnected and then immediately reconnected automatically. Everybody wondered "what just happened," but nobody reported any sound quality differences or any problems at all. Nobody even realized anything had been changed... except I was suddenly able to hear and talk.

You should encourage all the windows users to download the 2.3.2.Beta.1 windows client. It improves the sound quality when using the speex codec.

I think the bigger issue is that many don't have access to changing the codec and/or don't want to for fear of quality loss, even if it is unfounded. Personally, i haven't had a chance to speak/listen with it, but the rest of the functionality works and i'm thrilled to be able to at least chat with my guildmates using Vent without having to switch computers. A huge thank you goes out to Flag for his work.

Is there a reason why there is "official" silence on whether or not GSM Codec will be included in the future. I would appreciate an answer even if the reply is simply we don't know.

It depends if he can get access to using the codec. I've been using speex on my high quality vent server and sounds great as long as the PC users have updated to the beta.

That's a loaded question. The problem with "officially" answering questions like this are: If you say "yes" and it isn't in the next release, you get an outpouring of rage. If you say "no", you get an outpouring of rage. If you say "we don't know" you get an outpouring of rage and "What??? If you don't know, who the heck does???"

All I can say is: hope for the best, but plan for the worst. I figure that eventually all the features will be worked into the mac client... but get your people to change to speex in the meantime, just in case. It works fine.
