what version of windows and vent are you running? 32 or 64bit on each

setup vent as shown here:
http://forum.ventrilo.com/showthread.php?t=43879

Check the Audio driver to make sure it is up to date. Or try re-installing the current driver.
(note: some USB Headsets do not require a driver)
(Don’t assume the driver is up to date as a newer one may have been released since the computer was built)

- If you have a brand-name PC, like Dell or HP, then check the manufacturers website for driver updates.
- If you built the PC and use the on-board sound device then check the motherboard manufacturers website for drivers for your model motherboard.
- If you use a plug-in soundcard, ex: SoundBlaster, then check that manufacturers website for drivers.

Also check for BIOS and chipset updates

When checking for BIOS, chipset and certain onboard hardware drivers, you should only check the pc (or specific motherboard) manufacturers website for your make/model. The manufacturer is responsible for maintaining the proper version of driver for their specific hardware.

For example: Realtek is an OEM manufacturer of audio chips and there are many different revisions of each. The latest driver found on the Realtek site may not be compatible with the version of chip in your pc, and could cause problems like 'stereo mix' to not be available. Realtek comments to this effect on their download page.

in windows c-panel/sounds/recording tab/select mic device/try disabling all effects

I am running Window 7 64bit and Ventrilo 64 bit lastest version.

I have checked all drivers and the secondary sound card(used only for vent), all are up to date and current.

Its strange because everything worked fine on Tues at 11pm edt but today at 330ish pm edt i sound like a chipmunk and nothing has been changed.

I checked everything and did searching around even tried the windows recorder, sound like chipmunk too. All of this before reaching out here for help.

have you tried rebooting then running the windows recorder test before starting any apps? try disabling any un-necessary apps that start automatically.

does your pc have a second mic jack?

is it possible to test with a different mic?

if you can get it to sound good with win recorder then vent will probably sound good too.

Check this for me.

Control Panel -> Sound
Select the device giving you problems
Click Properties
Select "Advanced" Tab.

What does it say for a default format?
