Arrow Unable to connect to specified server

Today I wanted to set up a ventrilo server so I downloaded and installed the server aswell as the client.. and installed it as told.

Now when I open my client (with the server running) and create a server using my ip (and port 3784) I get the message: MSG: Sever is available, press connect.
So I do..
Now it takes a long time where ventrilo says: MSG: connecting to server.

After a minute or so I get the message:

Unable to connect to the specified server. Contact the server admin and verify that the server is online. You should also verify the hostname and port number with the server admin to assure that you are trying to connect to the correct server.

However if I change the Hostname or ip field into localhost I am able to connect.

I therefor think the problem is in my router though I did port forward port 3784. And even if I didnt wouldnt I be able to see it was online?
Also the firewall on my pc is disabled aswell as the firewall on the router. So that can't posible be an issue right?

I work on windows vista home premium, I downloaded the latest windows 32bits versions from the site today and I have a Sitecom 300N series router.

I hope someone can give me a clue how to proceed

using localhost is the correct way to connect to the server running on the same pc as the client. trying to use your WAN address can cause your system to do some wierd things.

check this thread on configuring your network and testing:
