Default

try testing the mic in windows first:

(the microphone must work here before it will work with Vent)

Windows XP
Control-Panel / Sounds and Audio / Voice Tab / Test Hardware Button

Windows Vista
Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder / create a recording then save it
Windows Media Player (WMP) / playback recording

Default I had this same problem

I had a problem in vent where It would sound like there was a helicopter in the background and people would crack jokes about Arnold or something.. anyways - do you have an iPod plugged in a USB port? I have an iPod touch plugged in a port on the top of my comp and a lot of times, while it's plugged in, I get the chopper noise, and the moment I unplug it, it goes away. I don't know what it would be if you don't have an iPod plugged in though, just through I'd through that one out there Hope it helps.
