do you hear it when using the windows recording function?

Windows XP
Control-Panel / Sounds and Audio / Voice Tab / Test Hardware Button

Windows Vista/Windows 7
Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder / create a recording then save it
Windows Media Player (WMP) / playback recording

what OS and audio device are you using?
is the headset USB or does it plug into the sound card?
also try plugging the mic into another mic jack (if you have one)
