Thumbs down Useless without GSM codec

Just bought a Macbook Pro, and I knew I could play World of Warcraft, and that there was a Mac client for Ventrilo. Thought I was all set....

What a HUGE disappointment that the Mac client only supports the Speex codec, while most of the commercial vent servers out there are configured for GSM (which gives the best voice quality by far, i.m.h.o.).

OK, it's labled BETA, but I was expecting bugs, not disfunctionality. I see in the forum that GSM support is expected in the next version, and it can't come quickly enough.

Otherwise, it's a great program, and I've recommended it to several guilds.

Any indication how long we Mac users will have to wait?

Some are, most aren't. Most guilds have long since made the switch to Speex.

When configured for similar settings, the voice quality is indistinguishable, and Speex uses slightly less bandwidth.

The developer won't say until it's ready. I recommend convincing your guild to switch to Speex, like many, many others have done.

(Yes, I'm aware there are people that have been unsuccessful in getting their guild to switch. Yes, I realize it's not easy. But since there's no other choice, you might as well spend your energy there)
