Default Silent raids, don't hear %#!

Hi, I have been playing Wow for some time now and enjoy it.

Recently my guild switch to Ventrilo, mainly to get rid of the lagg we were
experiecing in Teemspeex. This has turnd out to be a problem for me.

I am the only one playing on a Mac, and i feel that i am getting left out on the experiance,
raiding without sound. Not to mention the dificulty of timing and comunication.

Well i hope some ppl here can give me some tips on how to get this to work.

- I use a MacBook Pro - 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.4 8

- They have switch to Speex protokol on the server.

- When i start Ventrilo i can hear some ppl talking, and they can hear me, ( use build in mic, and speakers )
but soon i can se some one's icon on talk ( green ) and no sound, it can come after a few seconds, or even minutes.
( I can hear ppl biddig on items after Boss kill's, while we are already doing next mobbs, ( 5-10 min delay )
I lose conection several times as well, not sure why either.

I use build in airport, and have tryed conecting by wire, but no inprovment.

I have urged my fellow raiders to use the latest beta for windows, but it looks like that it only takes one in a 40 man raid to €#%! the sound upp.

I realy hope you can help me out, thx
( sorry for my bad spelling check comic )

You see i am noob, can't even get this to show in your forum, well klick link..

This sound like you have connection issues to the server you're using, rather than a problem with Ventrilo itself.

While in the game and while the conversation is going on, open a terminal window and type these two commands:

ping -c 15

traceroute

where is the IP address or hostname of the ventrilo server.

It's not kind-of-nice if they do, it's imperative that they do. You should work with your guild leadership to send a strong message that upgrading is required if people wish to continue to raid.

Have you ever tried convincing a guild of 300+ people to update their software??

I aint gonna happen.
Yes I have.

Three guilds I've been in have switched successfully. It's not easy, but it can be done.

Cursing at the Ventrilo developer is not going to get GSM support here any faster. He's well aware of the situation. He will deliver the software when he's ready and not before.

Incidentally, if he did announce a date and it were a long time out, that would seal your fate. Your guild would not even entertain the thought of switching and would tell you just to wait.

They will not update it unless the previous version doesnt work - especially is there is no real benefit to them updating anyway.
There is a benefit - not having Speex quality issues.

Windows users upgrade their Ventrilo all the time, without a second thought. They simply need to understand that:

A) The beta release is NOT beta. It is production quality and is the release the developer recommends if the server is configured for Speex.
B) Chances are high that voice quality issues will be encountered if every user does not upgrade to the beta.

Again, this isn't something you just post a message saying "hey guys, please upgrade." You work with your guild leadership to make it a requirement for raiding.

Don't put the brackets around the IP address.

ping -c 15 85.236.100.19
traceroute 85.236.100.19

Hmm...that connection looks very stable. Was that test run while the game was being played and Vent in use?
