Are you sure it works? Does the input level meter show at least 50% signal strength?

Genearlly you need an amplified mic, or an adapter such as a Griffin iMic. A standard PC headset won't work as the signal strength is not strong enough.

Then map a key in push-to-talk in setup, make sure outgoing voice communications is enabled and you should be good to go.

Are you connecting to a server that is configured with the Speex codec?

Does the icon next to your name turn green when you push the key down?

Headset or not doesn't matter.

Is the server to which you're connecting configured with the Speex codec? If it is not, you will neither be able to hear or talk.

Does the icon next to your name in Ventrilo turn green when you push down your push-to-talk key? If it does not, then Ventrilo is not detecting your keypress correctly.
