Question Stupid emulator tricks

Hello,

Yesterday my Mac-using friend tried to join the guild channel, and ran into the GSM codec problem.

Has anyone had success running a PC emulator to run the PC version of Ventrilo? I'm interested in that route because my chance of influencing the whole guild to switch to Speex is approximately zero.

Thanks,
JF

My understanding is that it does not work.

Understand though, that the process of switching to Speex is painless.

1) Whoever has admin rights on the server reconfigures and restarts the server

2) Windows users download the 2.3.2 beta 1 client.

3) Done.

I used VirtualPC to run Vent. I could listen to conversations, but I could not get any mic to work with it. So yeah, your friend could be able to listen in but not talk.

Have your guildies look at some of these threads. Most people think Speex sounds better than GSM, and as wade mentioned, switching is easy.

Thanks, PZ - I'll look into that and report back how we do.
