Default Lagging/broken voices help

Okay i am running vent on my macbook pro
2.4ghz
2 GB ram
now i am running boot camp and have windows and i have tried using on both sides and i can barely connect to vent server if i do everyones voices including mine is broken and lags. I am not computer savy with internet speed and junk so i dont know if this is it, here is my info tho
also i am in college dorms
at 2:30am now 43ms ping , 3800 download and 4900 upload
during the day i average 140ms ping , and around 1800 for both down and upload. Now this is to Chicago, IL supposable were the server is located and i am in NY any other info someone needs i can post

plz help i miss the fun chat.

Would a 50ft ethernet cable and the distance of the cable have anything to do with it. Unforunately wireless doesnt work in dorm so to have internet over near bed when i working i needed a longer cable.

There's a very good chance your college is assigning a very low priority to your Ventrilo traffic and that's the source of the problem.

And no, that length of Ethernet cable would not be a problem.

Dunno. Depends on how reasonable your college network administrator is. Contact your networking department, explain your issue and see if they're willing to change anything.

Ok I am having the same problem, except I am not on a college network. I live in a house. So what should I do. I can hear everyone just fine but if I try to talk for more than about 5 seconds my ping goes as high as 25000.
