do you see the server name and your name in the window?

if yes then the server admin needs to give you permission to 'see' other users and channels. those settings are in user-editor.

make sure the server is running > http://ventrilo.com/status.php
(enter the serverhostname and port# found in the vent client server setup)

perform a traceroute to the server and post the results:

terminal app
traceroute serverhostname(found in server setup)

try the telnet test:

terminal app

telnet serverhostname port#
(where serverhostname={the server ipaddress or hostname of the server you’re trying to connect to (found in vent client server setup)} and port#={port associated with that server}
(example: “telnet 75.125.43.51 3784” or “telnet www.myserver.com 3784” without the quotes)

If telnet can't connect then vent won't either as telnet is a function of the tcp/ip stack which is a part of the operating system. If it can't make a tcp connection then something is preventing the connection on that specific port#. try temp disabling all firewall/virus apps

you've probably already done this but have you verified the ipaddress and port# match the windows client (in case of a typo)?

Hello , i have this same problem but i am on windows xp pro. I have disabled all firewalls etc and i used the link to check the server. The server is running and it shows people on but i just stick at contacting server. I've triple checked ip address and port and they are correct. My friend across the street connects fine. I used the server for a few months and then was on vacation and now it doesnt work. Any ideas are appreciated
