Default My vent output has gone very quiet and hisses

My vent output to other users has suddenly and for no apperent reason gone very quiet even if I'm wearing a headset with a microphone.
It also hisses making my speech extremely difficult to hear.

I have tried uninstalling vent and then reinstalling it. When activated it still has all the old settings, contacts users names etc. Very clever but not what I wanted to do.

I am not a techie pings codex and just about everyother term I have read about mean nothing to me. So the content of your 'stickies' might as well be in serbo-croat for all it means to me.

My friend is the host, (has the host client server....whatever its called) she is in the US I am in the UK we have used vent with few problems for at least 5 years.

I always could and still can hear my friend quite clearly.

How do I make vent viable once again please.

All assisstance will be greatly appreciated but please in plain english not techie.

Thank you.

in vent setup, is the input device set to the name of the mic device?

first let's make sure the mic is working properly:

Testing the Microphone with Windows
(the microphone must work here before it will work with any voice-comm program)

Windows XP
Control-Panel / Sounds and Audio / Voice Tab / Test Hardware Button
or
Start / Programs / Accessories / Entertainment > Sound Recorder

Windows Vista/Windows 7
Programs / Accessories / Sound Recorder / create a recording then save it
Windows Media Player (WMP) / playback recording

Windows 8
Windows Control-Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound - Manage audio devices / Recording tab
Select the current Midrophone device / Set as Default / Properties / check the levels in 'Levels' tab / check the effects in the 'Enhancements' tab
Goto 'Listen' tab / select the proper 'Playback' device / click the 'Listen to this device' box and click 'Apply'
Speak into the mic and listen for playback / check the Levels and Enhancements again to adjust the sound
When setup is complete, un-check the 'Listen to this device' box and click Apply

--------------

if the mic is working properly in the windows test then can you post the following plz:

DXDIAG

Start > Run
Dxdiag

Click the 'Save All' button
File is saved to the desktop as "DxDiag.txt"
Copy/paste the information (up to, and including, the [PS/2 Devices] section) to the forum. The information might have to be separated into multiple posts due to the maximum character limitation.

also try this test:

goto vent setup, clik the 'test' button, hold ptt key and talk, release ptt key and listen to playback. how does it sound.

--------------
Starting From Scratch

Write down your Username(s) and Server information
exit vent
goto START/RUN and enter: %appdata%\ventrilo
right-click on ventrilo2.ini (located in the Ventrilo folder) and select “Rename”
give the file a different name
restart vent
re-enter your username and server/password information

Default problem is back

Vent was working fine but he problem as returned. My voice is low to others, their's are fine to me. My voice has hissing in the backgroung which makes my low volume voice indiscernable. I ge the same effect listening to my voice when I run an in vent test.

All help would again be greatly appreciated.
