@lothos

what OS and mouse are you using?

something to check for:

Cyberlink Powercinema

Vent lockup or lag

Audio Driver

Check the Audio driver to make sure it is up to date. Or try re-installing the current driver.
(note: some USB Headsets do not require a driver)
(Don’t assume the driver is up to date as a newer one may have been released since the computer was built)

- If you have a brand-name PC, like Dell or HP, then check the manufacturers website for driver updates.
- If you built the PC and use the on-board sound device then check the motherboard manufacturers website for drivers for your model motherboard.
- If you use a plug-in soundcard, like SoundBlaster, then check that manufacturers website for drivers.

Also check for BIOS and chipset updates

Vista/Win-7 and PTT

If you are running Vista/Windows-7 and Push-To-Talk, try setting both Vent and any online game to ‘Run As Administrator’ (rt-click their icons)

Vista/Win-7 ‘User Account Control’

If you are running Vista/Windows-7, try turning off ‘User Account Control’ located in Windows Control-Panel/User Accounts

I have had this same problem starting 2 days ago on a Windows 7 Home edition x64. My Dell XP730 computer was originally a Vista machine running Ventrilo just fine, There was an issue with Vista back last year as well which the same type of hanging occurred. Of course I don't seem to fnd that sticky anymore.

It seems like Vent started locking up after Tuesday's Windows update. What happened with me originally was that when I connected to Ventrilo, it took down my whole router/internet. This has been working just fine for several months. Crazy, I tell you, esp when everyone is in the middle of a dungeon! There is screaming and hollering in the house.

So, I updated my Killer NIC, updated my router firmware, uninstalled reinstalled ventrilo. I can get on Ventrilo now but it hangs for 30+ seconds when I log into Ventrilo and Log out and same when I access the Setup.

HELP!

couple things to check:

in vent setup, uncheck 'play key cliks'

set the output/input devices to enable 'use directsound' then set the name to that of the audio device

Cyberlink Powercinema

Vent lockup or lag

using vista 64 bit ultimate, uac turned off all drivers, bios, and stuff up to date. Logging on as admin as well as shortcuts set to run as admin. It will do this after a reboot with ONLY vent open, so its not an interaction issue with a game/directX.

Current mouse is logitech G5 ( used to use a G7) with G15 keyboard and non-USB Altec Lansing headset.

as an update, since my version of powerdvd never did work on vista 64 bit and I had never uninstalled it because it wouldn't do it itself via the control panel, I spent 15 minutes surgically removing it from my registry, cleaning and defragging the registry, and rebooting. No more lockup on vent launch.

So, somehow the combo is direct input, 64bit OS, vent, and cyberlink powerdvd. I never had vista 32 bit to try though, but definitely points to a directX conflict with powerdvd that in turn affects vent.
