They're not making any comments on when GSM support is coming, other than to say that the Windows and Mac versions will one day be equivalent in features.

The behavior you're describing is exactly what is expected if you haven't changed codecs on the server.

because the server has to be using the speex codec, i am hoping in the next release of the mac they are saying that it should be compatible with the windows and mac codecs

It is not a thing of one being Mac and one being Windows. It is just that as of now Ventrilo for the Mac doesn't support it.

Umm, we have that. The servers support Speex just fine and my whole guild and I are so stoked since I went to DarkStar and opened a server for us! You just need to ask your administrator to change the server codec to speex. Nobody should have a problem with this, the codec is fine and everyone sounds good to me.

http://darkstarllc.com/ by the way

It *is* compatible with each other.

If the default Windows Codec was Speex and GSM was the only option on the Mac, people would be complaining that Speex needed to be added to the Mac and Speex sounds so much better.

You CAN actually TALK in vent. Take 5 minutes to change two lines in the server configuration file. Works great, sounds great.
