I'm posting this for a guildmate who is having trouble installing Ventrilo 4 on Win10 64-bit.
She's tried several times and runs into the same errors each time. One error is: Quote:

the 1909 error indicates that windows can't create the shortcut link on the desktop. first try creating it manually by going to the ventrilopro directory then rt-clicking on the ventrilo.exe and selecting 'send to' > desktop
windows can also create a log file of the installation which might point out the error in detail. if the other user is ok with manually editing the registry then follow this: To enable Windows Installer logging yourself, open the registry by using Regedit.exe, and then create the following subkey and keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\Installer Reg_SZ: Logging Value: voicewarmupx rt-clik on windows and select 'new > key' rename key to Installer rt-clik on installer and select 'new > String Value' rename the string to Logging rt-clik on Logging and select modify add voicewarmupx to 'value data' field i tested this method on a win10 system. it does work. i did this using the win admin acct. the file will be located in C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Temp and the file name will be MSI****.log search the log file from the end upwards for ventrilopro.lnk to see what the file path is trying to find. creating the desktop shortcut is one of the last parts of the install. also, remove the install registry entry when done as it will also log all other installs.

I have this same problem. All of a sudden, about the end of Feb, my VentriloPro just stopped working on my laptop. I get the same errors as above. Have had a computer friend look at it, and he is stumped. Did all the above, and nothing works. Have deleted and reinstalled numerous times, nothing works. It works just fine on my desktop. Even tried putting the folder from that computer into a zip drive and copying it onto my Laptop. Still nothing. Any ideas?

@panna
have you tried creating the shortcut manually? locate the ventrilo.exe ( in the ventrilopro folder ). right-click on ventrilo.exe and drag to the desktop. select 'create shortcut' were you able to create the log file? |
