Default MSG:Contacting Server

I've used Ventrilo before, but went on a game break so didn't use it for a while. I come back and find that there's a new version out...So I download and install, blah blah. But all it ever does for me is just shows "MSG:Contacting Server" on the screen. Even when I'm not trying to join a sever it has that on there..When I try to join it doesn't do anything. Just changes the connect/disconnect button. The "MSG:Contacting Server" is always there no matter what I do. I thought maybe it was the server's problem, but I've tried many servers with the same results...am I missing something here?

i am new to vent i dont even know how topost on the oher wall but ok so i downloaded vent put my user and w.e then i put hostname or ip # then i put port and pass and that>>
is all it says i neww help can u help me??Connected to server but unable to authenticate your login name and password. Make sure you entered the correct global server password or the password for your unique login name. You will be automatically banned if you try connecting with the wrong password several more times, so be sure you have the correct password before you try again. Passwords are case sensitive and must be completely retyped if you are making a change to it. The password will always be displayed as 8 (*'s or dots) even if the actual length of the password is shorter or longer then 8. You should also verify that you entered the correct IP address (or hostname) and Port number. If the port number is wrong you are connecting to the wrong server.

sinovera - that usually indicates something is blocking the connection to the that server's particular port#. try temp disabling all firewall/virus/spyware checkers.

make sure the server is running > http://ventrilo.com/status.php

perform a tracert to the server:

start > run > cmd

tracert servername

try the telnet test:

start > run > cmd
telnet servername port#

(where servername={the server you want to connect to} and port#={port associated with that server}
(ex: telnet 75.125.43.51 3784 or telnet www.myserver.com 3784 )

Disabled all and tried it, but still the same thing...
I'm not sure what that tracert thing is supposed to do, but tried it and have no clue what the heck it's doing...
And yes, the server is running =/

Same problem here since yesterday... Me and my mates are unable to connect. Always the same damn message :

MSG : contacting Server

And nothing happens.

Status since yesterday : Ventrilo server is not responding.

What the hell is going on ?
