Default GSM Update?

Doesn't seem like anyone brought up this topic in a while, but is there any glimmer of hope for a Mac ventrilo version supporting GSM?

I'm really cut off from my team right now because I use a Mac, and i've been unsuccessful in getting the server switched over (the admins just don't want to).

Any news.. I've tried so much as running Ventrilo in Parallels workstation (without any luck) and also doing a Remote Desktop to a Windows PC and using vent through that (without any luck as well).

I'm afraid i'm out of options.

Get your server admin to change the codec to Speex. If your guildies who use windows upgrade to the BETA vent version they will notice NO difference in sound quality.

yes...luckily i have a server or two that will switch over to Speex when i am there but for many of them i cannot speak or hear but a Mac vent that supports GSM would be wonderful...

I dont think this is possible, either for legal reasons, or technical. If this thread catchs Flagships eye, im sure he could elaborate.

Please forgive if this is too off topic but you *may* get some answers here

http://kbs.cs.tu-berlin.de/~jutta/toast.html

If no answers are there it'll give you something to read while you're drinking your coffee anyhow

This isn't entirely true. We've been using Speex for a while now, and the admin didn't pay the rent and the server was down for 3 weeks, we used a GSM server. Going back to Speex caused a noticable difference in quality for many users (all of whom have the latest beta etc).

I'm the owner of our server and have tried to accomodate macs by switching, asking folks to download Beta. It's caused innumerable problems, the latest of which is that I can't speak in my own vent server anymore. Irony, you bet. What a hassle. Mac guys, I feel your pain, but it seems that Vent has not perfected the workaround .... I'm gonna have to go back, assuming I can ever get my settings straightened out again. Will everyone have to download the regular client again?

You not being able to speak in Vent has nothing to do with the codec you're using. You may not be able to speak, but I'm willing to bet the problem is completely independent of the codec you're using.

Having participated in 5 servers ranging from 10 to 75 users, all of which worked perfectly once we got everyone on the beta, I'll still disagree.

As for getting your settings "straightened out," what settings were you changing? The only thing you needed to do was change the codec and restart the server, and that's all you should need to do to change it back.

No.

Do the rest of the users have the latest beta? Flagship is very clear that ALL Windows users should be on the beta, not just those experiencing issues.

Finally, what were the Speex codec settings and what are the GSM settings? Unless you know they were configured with equivalent settings, it may have been perfectly reasonable that there was a difference in quality.
