I didn't ask about buttons on the mic - you need to map a key to push to talk and push that when you want to talk. If your icon doesn't turn green in Ventrilo, then it's not recognizing your keypress.

And if the dude that hosts the server doesn't know if it's configured with Speex, chances are really good that it's not. You will not be able to hear or talk until it's reconfigured with Speex as the codec.

He simply needs to change the codec. You can search on of the hundreds of threads on this board about it, such as this one:
