Default Ventrilo 3.0 FAQ

Ventrilo Frequently Asked Questions

Since there are many threads being created with the same questions, here is a FAQ for the new 3.0 version of Ventrilo.

Question: How do I set duplicate IPs?

-Log in to Ventrilo 3.0 as your administrator account.
-Right click your name of your server.
-Go to Server Admin.
-Click User Editor.
-Create a new user, with the appropriate settings, for both users.
-Under the Network Tab, you will see a "Duplicate IP" drop down box.
-Relog into Ventrilo, with that username/password.

Question:
Why wont my server start?

- Make sure your server name is more than 4 characters long. If it is not, change it and then hit update on the configuration page. All of the instances of servers being down so far have been related to this new requirement by Ventrilo 3.0

Question:
How do I set a default channel?

-The new default channel option is inside the user editor under the network tab.

Question: How do I set up a user?

-Log in to Ventrilo 3.0 as your administrator account.
-Right click your name of your server.
-Go to Server Admin.
-Click User Editor.
-Create a new user, with the appropriate settings, for your self.
-Relog into Ventrilo, with that username/password.

Question: Why are my Admin Features disabled?

-Log in to Ventrilo 3.0 as your administrator account.
-Right click your name of your server.
-Go to Server Admin.
-Click User Editor.
-If your name is already there, click on it and continue to the Admin tab, and check all the boxes for your admin features. You should now have your admin commands
-If your name is not there, refer to the question above.

Question: How do I set up an ADMIN user?

-Log in to Ventrilo 3.0 as your administrator account.
-Right click your name of your server.
-Go to Server Admin.
-Click User Editor.
-Click the "New" button on the bottom right.
-On the "Info" tab go to the "Login Name" drop down box and choose the user you want for admin.
-Enter a password for this user.
-At the top of the page, got to "Profiles" and select Generic Admin.
-Click the load button to the right.
-Click on the "Admin" tab and select the appropriate check marks.
-Click the "Add" button at the bottom of the page.
-Relog into Ventrilo, with that username/password.

Question: What are the new user rights, (GUEST) tag, etc.?

- For a very detailed explanation of the user access rights and all information about it, visit http://www.ventrilo.com/uar.php.
- To get rid of the guest tag the user must be created in the user editor, see the link above for the UAR FAQ page.

If you do not want to see the (GUEST) tag beside your name, please update your ventrilo client to 3.0.1

Default Private Chat, is this a bug?

The text part of the private chat works great. However, if two different PM windows are opened, both can hear the private voice chat. While this could make for interesting conversation, it might be nice it that didn't happen lol

Is there anyway for an Admin to allow a user to register with the server and then we can set their permissions as we see fit? The only reason I ask is because it will be come a daunting task to add all the users that I have individually and getting a password they want and then setting up their perms. Would just be easier for them to do this and then I can worry about what I want.

Thanks!

Exclamation One Problem

I love the new program its amazing its running and easy to use. But are you going to release a patch for backwards capability to 2.3 because I can not connect to any ventrilo's still on 2.3 and I am required to multi vent a lot in my job. so I was just wondering if that will be up soon.

Thank you,
Thomas V Jeffords II

P.S. I was still a great Build

I use the Logitech G15 gaming keyboard with LCD display. Currently, only the Beta ventrilo client adds support for the LCD. Will this beta still work with the new 3.0 servers, or does the new 3.0 CLIENT add LCD support?

PS. Sorry, I didn't see the post about NOT POSTING. Please move my question to appropriate category. Thank you.
