Default Special Application of Server

I am a Ham Radio operator and I use Ventrilo in a non gaming way. Specifically, I have a PC connected to my Ham radio transceiver and also run Ventrilo server on this PC. The sound card interface on the PC connects to the radio. This arrangement allows other client users to talk over my radio. I have a few elderly friends who are Hams but live in nursing homes and can not install a radio. This arrangement allows them to use my radio.

Here is the problem. A radio requires a push to talk (PTT) switch to be energized to turn on the transmitter. My work around is to set the radio up to operate in VOX (voice control) mode so it begins transmitting when it hears incoming audio from one of the client users. This works OK but has the inherent problems of VOX, such as drop out and hang time.

Is there some way to output from the server (say through the serial port) the fact that a client is transmitting (icon turns green). This output could then be used to key the PTT of the radio.

Any ideas are welcome!
