Comcen user suffering from huge pings

I'm a Comcen customer in Australia. I am having the same pings problems from 3.0 as other users are posting in these forums.

I usually connect ok, and then a short time later the pings begin to climb until I no longer hear people until either I eventually catch up again and hear everyone talking over each other or the ping reaches some 26,000 (probably timing out) and I disconnect.

After reading another thread suggesting there was shaping or low priority on packets going through my ISP on the UDP ports 6100 and 5000, I have placed a ticket in to my ISP asking they investigate these ports. They say they will do it tomorrow.

I am not alone, another friend on the same ISP but a different exchange is getting the same issues. I think we got the problems the same day, jsut a number of days after our leased ventrilo server upgraded to 3.0. We had never had problems before.

We don't think it's our local networks as I have installed commercial networks and my friend who also is having these problems is an internet installation contractor. I think from what I have seen, that the theory of "low priority" on the packets makes sense. The packets are not blocked per se, just tend to come bundled at intervals after they were sent fro mthe server.

please let us know what your ISP comes back with.

All the ISP will say is that they do not do packet shaping.

Update: This morning I rang the ISP again and they said their level two technician did "something". They wouldn't clarify beyond that, but that something was doen to those two ports for me. It seems my vent works fine now on 6100 and 5000.

Sounds like I have the same problem. How I would describe the problem is I connect fine and for some time vent works fine, but eventually what happens is one of the people in my channel instead of green shows a yellow speaker and either I get disconnected or eventually all the discussion spams in at about the same time.

The server port I am connecting too is like 13145, but are the client ports always 6100 5000, and do I need to contact my ISP to get something cleared up?

vent only uses 6100 during the initial synchronizing phase. port 5000 is only used if the server you connect to is configured to use it. (like 3784).

try setting 'process priority=high' in the setup/misc tab

does your vent ping skyrocket when the problem happens?

im also in australia, and im unsure which server to base my vent channel....

ATM i am UK. with 325 ping. i have 11,000kbs 1mg upload ADSL2 ( to my nearest exchange) is there a better server for me to connect to or should i cancel account and get a team speak channel set up? my CSS clan uses TS and i have ping of 30-40. i worry that the lag that 325 may cause will defeat the purpose of having vent...
