HUM in background when transmitting

Well I dont know much about bandwidth, codecs, etc but I know when I click on the button to transmit I hear an aweful HUM in the background. I have tried selecting directsound and different options in the dropdown but still no luck in gettingrid of the hum. I use the same mic on my other pc with no trouble. Any suggestions?

1) Operating System (OS): XP SP2
2) Sound Card: Realtek AC97 Audio
3) Game being played (if any): Not in game

Sure is. But this is what I discovered now not a ventrilo problem. Even in sound recorder in XP I get the hum when recording.

I have had several ppl in my server with that problem......Usually it is a dirty powersupply and or a lot of EM noise from fans and such

If that doesnt work or if ya dont want to mess with it, get a USB mic and or headset and tha'll fix ya up :D

I have many fans in my tower, could be the issue. I did get a usb headset and now we are back in business.

neat. interference can happen, but I have never experienced on any of my machines. onboard sound is most susceptible to interference if cheap capacitors and voltage regulators are used. glad a usb headset worked for you.
