Create a new user account on your Mac. Download and install Vent in that new account.

Let us know what happens.

I made a new user account. I did not have to Download and Install vent on that account as it was already in the apps dir. I was able to run Ventrilo from that Account but not the Admin one.

okay - sound like you have either a permissions issue with Vent or corrupted preferences.

You need to boot from your operating system CD, use disk utility and repair disk, followed by repair permissions.

Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, select your language, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Click Repair Permissions.
Quit Disk utility and restart

Try Vent again.

Do that and let us know.

There could be several things causing the application to quit as you are describing. First things first - we need to completely remove Vent from your computer and reinstall it.

Remove the following items from their respective folders:

1) Go into the Applications folder and trash the Ventrilo application

2) Go into your home folder->Library folder->Preferences folder and trash the Ventrilo folder

3) Restart

4) Download the current Ventrilo Mac Installer here:

5) Install Ventrilo and give it a try.

Let us know what happens.

still crashing. I am at a loss of what to do next. Should any cashes be purged prior to re-install?

As a guess I think you have a severely corrupted user account.

Vent works on another account which tells us that the operating system is ok, but something is haywire in the admin user account.

The concern there is that other issues may be cropping up so something should be done about it sooner than later.

I think the next step should be a reinstall of the operating system. With a 10.6.x installation, it will install a fresh OS and bring in your existing user data.

Boot from your 10.6 DVD and do the install. After installing, make sure to run your Software Update repeatedly until it says there are no more updates to install. After doing that, you may want to reinstall Vent as well.

Try that and let us know.
