Unable to Install

After a couple of hours of reading ventrilo issues and so on, i have not discovered this particular problem that i have.
My mac is a OS 4.11 tiger. I very recently bought myself this macbook and i am obviously a gamer and i need ventrilo terrible bad.
The problem that i have is that ventrilo will download (2.6mb) then a blank piece of white paper icon ends up on my desktop. From then, i try and open it and install it however it automatically opens up Itunes... I went in Get info, and found out that the default opening application for ventrilo was set up as Itunes. I went to "open with other" and that is where im pretty much stuck. I heard that i need to get it to Disk something, but i cannot find it.

If anyone can run me through this, id be very thankful.
Oh, the ventrilo downloads as a zip file. I saw a link for a unzipper, 'stuffit" but it costs 30 bucks...

If anyone can help, id be very grateful.
Thank you.

If you are using IE to download the program then try using Safari instead.

no, it downloads just fine. I cannot install it.

You cannot install it or you cannot uncompress (unzip) it?

If the issue is that you cannot uncompress it, please download The Unarchiver (it's free) from this website. Install it and then that application will allow you to uncompress the Ventrilo installer.

yes, thats correct. I cannot unzip it. I did install unarchiver and once i try to unzip it with it something loads for a couple of seconds then disappears and nothing happens.

so i tried to do it all again. re-downloaded it. Then asked it to ask me where to extract ventrilo so that i can see whether its doing anything or not. Once i choose a "Documents' or "desktop" it extracts and then once i open it there is nothing there. In the folder there is nothing.

Well, if it extracted the zip file in to a folder, that's an issue. What is supposed to happen is that it extracts into a file called VentriloClient.mpkg, which is actually an installer application, not a folder.

Sounds to me like you have a corrupted operating system or something up with your user account on the Mac. The issue you are experiencing is with the computer, not Ventrilo.

I would suggest creating a new user account on the Mac, then try downloading, unstuffing and installing on that account and see what happens.

If it still does not work, you may want to seek out a local Apple Specialist and see if they can assist

And if nothing else, reinstall and/or upgrade your operating system to 10.5

wait wait wait. The file that gets downloaded is already VentriloClient.mpkg! So ya. Once i download it, the file that i receive on my desktop is VentriloClient.mpkg exactly. I dont know what to do after i get this file.

You double click the VentriloClient.mpkg.

The installer will then launch in a window that says

"Welcome to the Ventrilo Client Installer" with a Continue button at the bottom. Click continue to walk through the installation process.
