Problem with Vent killing my iChat sounds

For some reason after vent runs I have a problem where I can't hear any sound from iChat, such as tones when people login, leave, or send a message. I've narrowed the problem down and its definately vent thats causing it, and I have no idea why. Any help would be amazing. Thanks.

It should work, but I'll wait for Wadesworld to chime in as I'm sure he has tested it before.

part of it seems to be the problem that my push to talk key (f6) triggers the system alert whenever I use it to talk while in ichat

I'm also using an isight as my mic, if that makes any difference.

Anything I can do to test this further or help with, please let me know.

Go to the keyboard settings, and you can turn the System F keys off. Basically you have to press fn+F3 to mute your sound now (if you turn it off). I do that for most gaming and vent, it just prevents a lot of problems.
